The Instagram data download tool turns out to be a real risk for its users since it can expose their passwords.
The popular company Facebook has been characterized by always being in the eye of the hurricane and because for controversy in terms of the use and management of data of its users. It is well known by many that keeping the personal information of the users safe is not an issue that in particular is very important to Facebook and that disregard for the safety of users has also been evidenced in the Instagram platform.
It turned out to be a double-edged sword
The tool called Download Your Data was launched in order to comply with the new data privacy regulations of Europe, GDPR, however, is available worldwide. This application allows you to download all the information that the Instagram platform has about your user.
This includes everything you have shared and the interactions that you have had through the platform. The operation is simple, you just have to make a request through this tool and in 48 hours a report with all the data will be sent to you.
However, although its purpose was to ensure greater security in terms of data, it turned out to present a flaw that can publicly expose the login passwords of its users.
This error was not only noticed by many users, but the same application reported about the problems that occurred. The platform took care of notifying everyone that when using the Download Your Data the passwords used for their login were published, they were included as part of the URL of a web page, this site is a third party linked to the new app.
The newspaper The Information ensures that in addition, the report of this error revealed that Facebook computers were stored information that was received immediately.
Another hard blow for the company
As previously mentioned, this company has been the object of public mockery due to the lack of importance it gives to the safe maintenance of the information of its users. This is one more piece of evidence that adds to all the previous scandals.
It is still too early to be able to calculate the true extent of this significant safety failure although the official position of the company has been to determine that it is a problem that affected only “a very small number of people” and that has already been resolved in a successful way
Facebook invites users to delete the records and make a password change as a prevention, however, draws attention to the little real interest of the company in dealing with offering total security for its users. It is not the first time that is involved in a scandal related to this issue. This has been more than evident with the launch of a tool to provide security in the data that paradoxically ended up publicly exposed to the reach of anyone.
